Uganda’s Stella Chesang, Chelangat ran riot in Women’s 10KM category

Stella Chesang has won the Women’s 10,000m final gold medal in the ongoing 2018 Commonwealth games taking place in Australia.

Also, Mercyline Chelangat, another ugandan who was in the same race, scooped bronze. The duo put up a spirited fight against the Kenyan trio of Stacy Ndiwa, Beatrice Mutai and Sandrafelis Chebet Tuei and Australian Celia Sullhoern.

Now Chesang has became the first Ugandan to win this particular crown at the Commonwealth games.

Yesterday, Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei won a gold medal in the 5,000m final. He registered a time of 13:50.83 ahead of Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed who came second with a time of 13:52.78 at the Carrara Stadium track on Sunday morning.

The other two Ugandans in the race Thomas Ayeko and Phillip Kipyeko finished fourth and sixth respectively.

Some Ugandans, including President Museveni, have already taken to social media to congratulate Chesang and Chelengat.
