The residents of Bugembe town council, Jinja district are at a threat of contracting diseases. For example, cholera due to poor disposal of rubbish in their area.
The town council is choking with tonnes of uncollected garbage dumped along the roads. This is mainly on Iganga- Jinja high way in Jinja district.
The residents attribute this to lack of designated places where the waste materials can be dumped.
Pastor Wilson bugembe: I thank you all for the Love.
They added that they contribute 200 shillings weekly for garbage collection to the council. In addition, they say the concerned people have failed to handle the problem.
The mayor Bugembe town council, Stephen Wante says the town council produces predictably 40tonnes of garbage daily. This makes it hard for the council to collect due to limited man power and lack of enough space.
However, Wante said the town council has plans of securing designated places where wastes can be dumped and dustbins have been placed in strategic places in town although most people have not yet embraced it. He further said this will sort out the problem in the shortest time possible.
The Mayor also noted that some residents in the area have a mentality of dumping rubbish everywhere, saying whoever is found in the act throwing and dumping garbage anyhow will be arrested and prosecuted in courts of law.
