Makerere responds to angry Gov’t students

Makerere University Government students Association (Mugosa) through their umbrella have today started an social media campaign particularly twitter dubbed #ReleaseLOAMakerere demanding for their leaving out allowances funds.

 

This has come a day after media reports indicating that the University Management during their financial meeting had resolved to use government students’ allowances to clear striking lecturers’ incentive arrears.

 

News created furious discussions amongst the student’s populations and many had suggested Monday to resorting to striking ways, while many started sending word to  the Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor – VC

 

However, through their leadership,  government sponsored students resolved to use social media to engage University official.

While responding to some of students’ posts and comments on Twitter, Mr Cyriaco Kabagambe the Dean of Students Makerere requested all wardens to inform students in their respective halls that the first batch of leaving out allowances is ready for payment by Monday thorough their bank accounts.

He however added that payment will be made to only those who have registered others will be paid in subsequent batches as they finalise registration.

Thousands of the beneficiaries are stranded on the rentals and hostels outside campus since by admission; they aren’t allowed to reside in the university’s halls of residence.

Francis Ainomugisha, a second year Student at the school of Education said that the delay has caused serious challenges for him.

“Because our parents know that we get money for accommodation and meals, they don’t give us a lot of money. Now I had told the landlord that I would pay after three weeks but today is the end of the fourth week. I don’t know where I will sleep,” Ainomugisha said.
