NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 20 Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is the second-fastest-growing cargo airport in the world. It has been observed in the Airports Council International (ACI) World Airport Traffic Report
In addition, it highlights top airports for passengers, cargo and aircraft movements the world’s fastest-growing airports for 2018.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has tabled second in the ‘Fastest Growing Airports (Handing over 250,000 metric tons of air cargo)’ category. However, it handles over 342,000 metric tons of air cargo in 2018, a 25% growth from what has been reported in the year 2017.
Similarly, JKIA has brought a significant boost in air cargo traffic to and from Europe, Asia, America, China, and Australia.
Therefore, this is what has increased in JKIA being an emerging force and destination in the air cargo industry.
However, through planning and private sector participation, the airport has registered a steady transformation in the way air cargo is maintained.
Astral Aviation, a cargo airline operating from JKIA has in the last year acquired three Boeing 747-400 cargo aircraft to expand its network.
