Embattled police SACCO gets new leadership

KAMPALA — Senior commissioner of Police Wilson Omoding as assumed office as the Police Exodus SACCO boss.

SCP Omonding and other newly elected leaders of the struggling SACCO have Monday, December 23 assumed responsibilities at a function held at forces’ headquarter Naguru, Kampala.

Exodus Sacco is a microfinance institution in which police officers save their money.

The event was presided over by joint chief of staff AIGP Brig. Jack Bakasumba who tasked the new leadership to change the negative public opinion about the embattled Sacco.

In his remarks, AIGP Bakasumba urged the new leadership to serve to the interests of the members of the Police Sacco on top of being honest and patriotic.

“Be honest, and patriotic because we have put confidence and trust in you,” he said, “We have a lot of hopes in you [and] don’t let us down.”

He added: “We shall always be there in a case of any strategic guidance so that you serve in the interest and betterment and transformation of the Sacco

He also urged to keep the members informed about whatever they are doing.


Senior Commissioner of Police Wilson Omoding, the newly elected chairman of the SACCO pledged total commitment to building and improving the services of the Exodus Sacco.

“we shall always be open for your strategic guidance an ideas on how to develop and take the Sacco ahead,” Omoding said.

The Police Exodus SACCO has for long been surrounded by controversy. Also, ranging from allegations of improper accountability to members’ failure to have timely access to their savings, a claim Police leadership admitted.

Junior police officers have always claimed that it is hard for them to access their savings owing to different barriers put in place to make withdrawing the funds difficult.

While appearing before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee in August, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sabiiti Muzei said that the police leadership begins addressing the issues in the Sacco.

Commenting on the same, Chief Police Commissar Uganda Police Force- CPC, Asan Kasingye, said the top police leadership had resolved to restructure the management of the SACCO due to scandals.
